Winter Hair Hacks (that actually work!)

Indoor heating and winter hats equals sweaty scalps and flyway ends. Here are some idea to combat your winter hair struggles.

Amika Perk Up dry shampoo, winter hair hacks

Keep a travel sized dry shampoo in your bag! Spritzing it at your roots will eliminate sweaty hat head. Throw a dryer sheet in your bag as well to smooth over your hair to get rid of pesky static too! I prefer dryer sheets over static spray because I find the sprays just don’t work as well. There is also the added bonus of the they don’t take up much space!

Washing all your hats, gloves, headbands and earmuffs will prevent winter breakouts! Washing removes oil and bacteria buildup and helps your winter gear last longer! Follow manufactures instructions always, but most (not all) fabrics can be hand washed and laid flat to dry. Use a gentle detergent if you have sensitive skin.

Deep condition your hair! A few times a month use your favorite moisturizing hair mask. Generously apply and wrap your hair in a towel or clip it up and pop on a shower cap and let it sit for 10-20 minutes! The heat from your head will help get all that goodness to soak in for maximum benefit! Rinse and style as usual. My favs are the Olaplex No.8 Moisture mask and Amika SoulFood.

Get a haircut! Trimming the ends and reshaping will make your hair look and feel healthier. Even if your growing it out, getting it cut 2-3 times per year will help you reach those hair length goals. It’s also helpful for you to see a stylist couple times a year so they can spot potential problems early. Dry scalp, dandruff and thinning hair are just a few things that your stylist might notice before you do. They would be able to offer suggestion or be able to direct you to a dermatologist if it’s outside their scope of practice!

Hope these help! Have a great day!
